Kevin's Radio Presenting Tips!

3/30/2016

Kevin's Radio Tips and Tricks!

Hi, my name's Kevin Bright, and I'm part of the team here at the Online Radio School. I'm thirty years old, and I've been working in radio for the past thirteen years. During that time, I've broadcast on twelve different stations. I've presented shows on community, online and commercial stations. Over the next few weeks and months, I will be giving you some insight and tips into the experiences I've had in radio.

Kevin's 3 Top Tips!

1) Experience: What I've learned over the years is to get as much experience as possible. Get yourself a mic and some recording equipment / software. I like Adobe Audition because it's user-friendly, industry standard and you can practice at home.

Find any hospital or community radio stations in your area and ask if they need any volunteers. You can learn the basics of radio and gain precious experience this way.

2) A Thick Skin:

My main downfall over the years has been letting small things bother me and over thinking too much. I now believe that to work in radio, especially at a high level, you've got to grow a thick skin and keep persevering in what you want to do. Also, you have to learn from your mistakes.

3) Enjoy It:

Sometimes we lose sight of why we wanted to do radio in the first place. Remember, we do radio because we love it! We enjoy the feeling of listening and being on air, or we just love being and working in a radio environment. Too many times we get bogged down with all the ins and outs of getting into radio. After thirteen years in radio, I believe the most important thing is to enjoy what you're doing and don't give up trying to break in.

Kevin Bright is currently a professional DJ on SFM 106.9.

    Ashley..

is an ex BBC, radio studio manager, and the ex manager of Radio Kings, the hospital radio station for King's College Hospital. He's presented on three FM stations and waaay too many community stations.

He loves radio training having been a radio trainer at five community radio stations. He especially loves beating good radio sense into naughty presenters!

Every now and then he may blog some radio training tips through (ahem!) comedy. Hey, why be conventional!
